"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." ~ Benjamin Franklin

For Anonymous

>> Thursday, April 10, 2008

Well, my dear readers, it seems we are "uneducated" and "narrow minded". I received a comment from Anonymous who was not so happy about my question if Oprah could say God.

I think you need to watch Oprah more often. On Tuesday, while interviewing Coach Vivian Stringer, Oprah said,"God is great." They were discussing the tragic events that occured in Coach Stringer's life and how God had helped her through it. Oprah didn't shy away from God, she said he [-sic] was great.
So, I would suggest you and your friends leaving comments educate yourselves a little more, instead of being so judgemental and narrow-minded.

I thought I would bring forth this video which includes snippets of past Oprah shows showing Oprah saying that there is no one way to Heaven and that whether you call "it" God or "the light" or a "higher power" it's all the same.

Well, my friend, it is not all the same. God said that belief in Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.

Maybe John 3:16-18 rings a bell: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. {17} For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. {18} He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

I think that's pretty straight forward. You will not get to Heaven through Oprah's "New Earth" class or any good works. And if you think you will you are only deceiving yourself and being led forth by false prophets. Oprah said that her favorite quote from the book is in chapter one. It includes "Man made God in his own image". That completely blasphemes the Bible.

So, yes, Anonymous, Oprah can say God. She just doesn't know God or His nature.

Saying that shall leave you with this thought:
Jeremiah 23:16 : Thus says the Lord of hosts: "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you worthless; they speak a vision of their own heart, not from the mouth of the Lord."

AMEN!!! Muslims say "god". when ever I hear someone say that, I usually wonder which one they're talking about. With Christ it's either Him or nothing -period. He's not sharing and that's what people find so offensive - that exclusivity.
You're so right. What a great opportunity to share the word there..

Excellent post.

I think Oprah has taken the "God is a jealous God" comment out of context.

When the Bible refers to him being 'jealous' it means you are to worship no other idols, no other gods, no other "light" or "power" but Him.

She makes me very nervous when she talks about then wanting to search for something "more than doctrine." Another disturbing thing is that she discusses with Mr. Tolle (sp?) about what happens to a person after death, and he says "I don't give it a thought."

Scary.

I honestly think she's trying to reach a wide viewership and not nail down any specific belief, but in essence all she's doing is make herself look wishy-washy and I think she's denying herself of her true beliefs.

I don'tknow that Oprah has any true beliefs- she is promoting this New Earth stuff pretty hard.

The people who are following worry me. Many are Christians and are becoming more and more lost. We are very lucky that our church teaches the Bible (we spend months on a book, sometimes over a year) so we understand when we are told that God is jealous. I've been to many churches where the words are said but not explained.

Hmmm...we are judgmental and narrow-minded?? Isn't calling somebody "judgmental and narrow-minded" judgmental and narrow-minded? People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. :)

Anyway, I am glad you found the video. One of the main issues I have with Oprah is the fact that sooo many people take what she says at face value without ever looking into it. They buy what she says to buy and read what she says to read. Dare I say for fear of being criticized by anonymous that people are giving her a place in their lives that definitely belongs to somebody else or in the words of one of my favorite songs...

What if the family turned to Jesus
Stopped asking Oprah what to do.
