Childless... Kind Of

>> Saturday, July 05, 2008

Today was another day full of family- this time mine. We traveled to the southern part of the state for a family reunion. My grandfather and his siblings and all their offspring. Funny note: grandpa had 8 kids in his family (2 died in infancy, so there were 6 of them- I think...). Anyway, when they were figuring up the family numbers the total number of offspring from all my grandfather's siblings came to 120. The total offspring of my grandfather... 60. Yep, half the reunion I was directly related to. We're a fruitful bunch.

Anyway,we were preparing to leave... Caelan had long ago passed out in grandma's arms and was sleeping on a couch... Brenna didn't want to leave, she wanted to stay and play... I sent her to say goodbye to grandma... And she ended up going home with grandma instead of us... Funnily enough we left at the same time.

So now we are home and Caelan will probably hit her bed early. And my plans? Pfffttt... Mrs. Brown was waiting in my mailbox. I may enjoy it with an adult beverage.

Seriously...60 for Grandpa alone. You know, for a guy who has spent his life being frugal and not leaving the farm too much he is rich in so many other ways. Grandma & Grandpa truly enjoy their family time and we're lucky to still have them around to enjoy!

I always laugh that my family is so huge I will never know everyone. My dad is the second youngest of 8. He had two brothers pass early in their 20's, and one sister that is a nun. Between the remaining 5 siblings, there are 21 grandchildren for my grandparents. My brother at 27 is the youngest. The oldest...two months younger than my dad. Large families are fun.
