I Thought I Was Done

But no. There is one final gift that needs to be purchased. One for my father.

Many of you may remember that my dad was crushed by a machine at work a few short months ago. We really didn’t think he would live. He has made a recovery that is nothing short of miraculous and we are very thankful that he is able to join us for Christmas this year.

Following his recovery his wife decided that she wanted a divorce. It’s a long time coming and was not unexpected but her timing was crappy. I think she would have preferred to play the grieving widow.

To make a long story short, dad is barely living on his workman’s comp as his lawyer works toward a settlement on his accident, which could take years to come through, and can’t afford to buy Christmas gifts this year. Which we all understand and have no problems with. We don’t need anything and our kids won’t notice.

But we want to get him something. So I will be heading out tomorrow to purchase a new coat and gloves for him from all of us kids. Ugh, the Saturday before Christmas and I will be shopping.

Thankfully Doug put in a lot of hours this year and our Christmas shopping was mostly handled with cash.

And that certainly helps with my Christmas cheer!
