DSM Register Stumping for Kerry

>> Sunday, October 24, 2004

It's no surprise or secret that the Des Moines Register is stumping for Kerry. Their attempt at fair and balanced is to have columns from a conservative standpoint 2 or 3 times a week.

That being said John Kerry, the real thing is so over the top that they couldn't even sign it. The byline is REGISTER EDITORIAL BOARD.

Read the editorial, then click on the link to the right of it to Send a Letter to the Editor. We cannot let this go unchallenged. While reading this, I couldn't help thinking that they are characterizing the wrong person.

UPDATE

Here is my letter to the editor. After you write yours be sure to share it with us in the comments section. It may be the only place you will get to see it in print and unedited. ~ Jody

You begin your opinion article stating that "About half of Americans have lost confidence in President Bush". That statement leads to the fact that slightly more than than half of Americans have NOT lost confidence in the president. You go on in the article to state "National polls show the president's disapproval numbers hoving near 50 percent". That, again, means that the President's approval numbers also hover near 50%.

Your article shows a "glass half full" mentality that is clearly being used to sway voters. Americans are more astute than the Register or the main stream media give us credit for. The internet has given us the ability to check and cross check facts that are handed out to us.

As you so rightly say, we should judge John Kerry on his years in the Senate and his voting record. It's not an impressive record. In 20 years he has written 5 bills that have become law. Only one helped women in small business. The other 4 a) named a building, b) granted a visa, and c) dedicated 2 "holidays", one to Jackie Robinson and one to "World Population Day". Also, every time he has voted on a tax bill it was to increase taxes.

That's not a record to be proud of, nor to base a Presidential campaign on- which is why John Kerry has not touted his Senate years.

It has been rare for me to find someone who is voting "for Kerry" and not just "against Bush".

Kerry said in the second debate that he has the better handle on international relations because he met with the entire UN Security Council prior to resolution 1441 (determining that Saddam was in material violation and autorized "serious concequences").

However, "seared" that memory is, it looks like he stretched the truth again

Only one thing can save the Kerry campaign now. Dennis Kucinich and Grandfather Twilight need to hit the campaign trail wearing tin foil hats, and demand that Bush stop using the orbital mind control lasers on Kerry that he tried to ban in October of 2001.

It's Bush's fault John Kerry is delusional.

I'm a collector of examples of insanity, and the Democratic Party is a virtual fountain of it.

Here's what I sent to the Register:

Ah, what I would give to get the news from an unbiased news publication. It's like they always say, "There are three sides to every story: yours, mine, and the truth. I don't believe any news publications should be able to choose one side without telling the other one's story equally.

You say about half of the country has lost confidence in President Bush, maybe, but that leaves over half that that support the President, and our troops, who believe in what they are fighting for and are proud of what they have accomplished.

You say President Bush doesn't cite his own accomplishments: I say taking an evil dictator out of power an outstanding accomplishment. A dictator who stockpiled millions of dollars of Iraq's wealth, a tyrant who killed and tortured his own citizens.

In the comics section of the Monday paper, B.C. has said it best: "did they find the Weapons of Mass Destruction yet?" "Not yet, so far they've only found a million tons of munitions." "A million tons! That doesn't qualify as a WMD?" "Nope, just MDW's. Masses of Destructive Weapons."

And, of course, everybody knows good news doesn't get ratings. All we see in Iraq is bad news. I know for a fact that there are good things happening over there, this coming from soldiers who have been there and are making a difference. Please also note that war takes time, good people die, it can be frustrating, and these are different enemies that do not play by any rules.

Next off, Senator Kerry is about as welcome at my doorstep as a pushy vacuum cleaner salesman. He has all these gimmicks and quick fixes but can't explain how it works. How's he going to fix one problem? Probably by creating two more.

Also, I don't believe that Kerry is the right choice to end the war. I wouldn't feel safe under command of a person who gave comfort and aid to the enemy during the Vietnam war. we are fighting a different kind of war. A war where terrorists want to kill everyone that does not share their beliefs, regardless of age, race, or gender. There are no negotiations, no peace talks, and no treaties. These are terrorists who Kerry has called "nuisances."

At the end of the elections, I have no doubt that there will be recounts, with as close as the polls have been, but I have no doubt, if President Bush wins, lawyers will be involved, but if Kerry were to win, the terrorists will have won.

In closing, if a writer was proud of what he or she wrote, he/she would sign their work. Apparently, there is a doubt in your mind. I, however, am proud of my country, my troops, my President.
