State Fair Photos!

>> Monday, August 18, 2008

Paula had a great post about her experience at the Iowa State Fair (complete with photos)- go check it out. After you read mine, of course.

The girls and I made our excursion on Friday afternoon with my mom, brother & nephew. Not to rub it in to Paula, but I didn't wait in a long line of traffic (and I took the main road in), I got free on-street parking right outside the fairgrounds and it was a perfect day (about 82 degrees).

After the petting zoo and pony rides we were meandering toward the Kid's Fun Forest when the Budweiser Clydesdales made an appearance.

Then Brenna met the mascots, Fairfield and Rosetta.

I tried to get a photo of Caelan with Rosetta but she wasn't having anything to do with a walking purple ribbon...

We finally made it to the Fun Forest and got our front row seats for Bob the Builder.

Brenna & Caelan clapped and did the manditory response "Yes we can!"

Since the Ag building is right by the Fun Forest we stopped there next. There was very little wait to see the fair's most famous attraction:

600 pounds of butter. Almost clogs your arteries, doesn't it?

Also on display were a butter Shawn Johnson and a gingerbread Terrace Hill (our governor's mansion).

Brenna was off with Grandma & cousin Koen riding the tractor trolleys so Caelan and I wandered about the grounds. Doug arrived and we spent a bit of time at the National Guard tents. Caelan tried out a Humvee.

After browsing the varied industries building we had a wide variety of fried food for dinner then Brenna rode the sky glider with Daddy.

She loved it.

Then we were off to a new building: the Animal Learning Center. Brand new babies... And I mean brand new.

There were also calves, pigs and goats. I never did get to see the ducks go down the slide...

There was also good 'ol farm fun- jumping in hay bales.

Right next to this is the "Little Hands on the Farm" interactive exhibit for kids. We were too late... Maybe next year.

Yeah, thanks for NOT rubbing it in about your parking experience, Jody! :)

Where have I been? I didn't even know the Fair had MASCOTS?!? Too cute!

The photo of Brenna and Daddy on the SkyGlider gave me a slight anxiety attack. I have nightmares about that thing.

How wonderful! I can't wait for our fair to start next week. Boo is so excited she can't hardly contain herself.

That is awesome! Looks like the girls had a great time - and as always - thanks for taking pictures!

I am glad you had such a good time at the fair.

Maybe next year we will head back. I need to pay attention to the free stuff. My kids would have loved Bob the Builder.
