Self magazine did a survey of the 100 largest metro areas in the US to find out which was the healthiest.
You may be surprised to know that the Des Moines metro is on that list. Yep, we're getting big.
Des Moines ranked 33rd out of 100 in healthiest cities ranking low in depression, high in mammograms, pap smears and breast exams and shortest in commutes.
What they don't mention on their website but do in their full article is that Des Moines is the 4th happiest place in the US- behind Minneapolis (I was very happy there so I get it), Nashville and Fargo, ND/Moorhead, MN.
Hmmm, must be the short commutes... 'Cuz it certainly isn't the weather.
